Golden yellow figures move in small, close repeats across a deep red ground.

Why this piece

  • Colour-fast - a strong red that does not bleed on the first wash, which is the usual worry with this shade.
  • Grey and green notes keep the red from reading as flat festive, so it works on a weekday too.
  • Complete unstitched set - top, bottom and dupatta, 2.5 metres each.

Red, figures and border

The human figures are stamped small and dense, so from a distance the red carries a warm golden shimmer and only resolves into folk art when you look properly. Rectangular panels with botanical and geometric bands finish the bottom edge.

Grey grounds part of the set and green appears in the accents, which is why this red survives daylight as easily as lamplight.

How to wear it

Katan silk gives the red depth and a graceful fall, and the fabric is opaque enough to stitch unlined. The full set weighs 600 to 650 g.

This is the shade for a day wedding, a puja or a festive lunch; keep the jewellery gold and warm, and let the border sit at the hem of a straight kurta rather than being cut through by a flared panel. Genuine hand-block red on Katan silk is rare - the market prints this palette almost entirely on cotton.

The set in detail

  • Top: 2.5 metres, 44 to 45 inches wide
  • Bottom: 2.5 metres, 44 to 45 inches wide
  • Dupatta: 2.5 metres, 35 to 36 inches wide
  • Weight: 600 to 650 g for all three pieces together
  • Stitching: straight kurta set up to 4XL, length customisable
  • Lining: not required, the fabric is opaque; add one only to elevate the look
  • Care: dry clean the first wash, then a gentle cold hand wash
  • Dispatch: printed by hand, yet dispatched the next working day
  • Collection: Chaupal

No two figures fall in exactly the same place twice; that is the block, moved by hand.
